Time passes, Charlotte spends a good amount of time as Chameleon and Chad covers for her by lying to her father about hanging out with her.
Chameleon beats up many criminals, almost as if Nightknight and Brightman are taking a break, letting her handle the smallfry and only showing up for the big incidents.
During this time of heroics, Charlotte also spent a little time playing with David; like she was trying to assuage his worries, when she is what he worries about.
Playing Monster Lands 4 with David while Chad is preoccupied with handling his relative Nyarai, days move by and more videos of Chameleon’s heroics appear on the internet.
Videos of armed criminals and thugs getting beaten up by an invisible hero; people now knowing that this invisible hero is called Chameleon.
Thanking Chameleon or just trying to talk to her; in a random video Chameleon’s head and arm pokes out behind a building, waving at the camera.
Which is rare as she almost never shows up in any video, or rather just what she does appears in the videos; her invisibly beating up bad guys.
Though she does a lot more than what is shown in the videos as most of her heroics are done in secrecy, with no one around to record videos of her.
Having met Nightknight on one of her trips and being informed a little bit about superhero life.
(Nightknight:)”Hi, I have cast a spell on you to help smoothen your fate, as us superhumans have very chaotic and disturbing destinies.
Guiding you towards crimes and injustice to solve, so me and Brightman would like to let you handle the small fry and give us some peace and quiet.”
Chameleon is shocked by meeting her idol, being a complete superhero geek; primarily idolizing Nightknight and Brightman, which is embarrassing for Chad and David.
But calming herself slightly. (Chameleon:)”Can you see who I am?” Having worried about what Alexander the sergeant said about Nightknight and Brightman seeing through her disguise.
(Nightknight:)”…No I can not see through your disguise and neither can Brightman.-” Chameleon sighs in relief until. “But I still know who you are.”
They both go quiet, Chameleon eyes widen before squinting at him in suspicion. (Chameleon:)”…How?” Nightknight does not answer her question.
(Nightknight:)”Neither I nor Brightman can see through you, Alexander is right and I half expect him to also know who you are.
Please continue working hard, growing and change this world into a better place; be a better hero than me and Brightman, I expect as much from you.”
He says cryptically before disappearing into the night sky of Farlong, leaving Chameleon alone on the roof watching the sky.
Complaining to herself. (Chameleon:)”Did not answer, he had to act mysterious. Could not just assuade my fears like a good knight would.”
Chameleon even meets Hellbitch while being lead by the fate guidance spell from Nightknight; finding Hellbitch in a graveyard, walking up to her… “Aih!”
And Hellbitch makes a weird scream and jumps away, aiming her flaming fists at whatever spooked her; behind her is Chameleon who is confused by Hellbitch’s reaction.
Hellbitch spends a couple seconds on guard before realizing and relaxing slightly. (Hellbitch:)”Damn girl, you scared me; I thought you where a monster sneaking up on me.”
And Chameleon realizes. (Chameleon:)”Ah, sorry. Thought superheroes were more, composed… Like Nightknight and Brightman?”
Hellbitch has a pondering expression… pondering body language? Even though you can’t see her face.
(Hellbitch:)”Maybe, I have only been active for one year and don’t compare most superheroes to Nightknight and Brightman, you will destroy all of their confidence.”
(Chameleon:)”Sorry.” (Hellbitch:)”No problem, I am already used to being around those two and being compared to them constantly but others are not.
So be careful and don’t shame others by comparing them to those two. As your senior I will guide you through the dos and don’ts of superheroes.”
Patting her perky chest, pretending to be a capable senior and Chameleon easily sees through her facade but decides to not break her fantasy.
(Chameleon:)”Please guide me.” Chameleon does a full ninety degree bow, being super respectful and acting like a good disciple to pass on your ancestral martial arts to.
And Hellbitch laughs. (Hellbitch:)”Good! I will teach you all that I have learned. You can count on me, I have survived the crazy stuff that Nightknight and Brightman fights.”
This is the start of their weird friendship… later Hellbitch did not even flinch while chasing the silly necromancer teenagers out of the graveyard.
Nor did she flinch while beating up a small undead army and afterwards helping to put them all back to rest in their graves.
Teenagers playing around with dark magic at such an age, they were probably not going to send an undead horde on people but…
Raising the dead, even if you had no intentions to start a war or anything; grave robbing is frowned upon, which is necessary for necromancers.
Chameleon gets to experience beating up zombies and skeletons, which breaks her view of the world through magic.
She did know the world was crazy but experiencing it personally; how weird things get, made it all the more apparent.
